Before we get started on the awesome tips I found online for you, I wanted to say if it takes you a week or two to finish the kitchen that is okay and more realistic than in 2 days. Because I am doing an area a day, it is condensed but that doesn't mean you have to follow the schedule. :)

I love this tutorial from Ask Anna. I have a Dyson but this would apply to most upright vacuums.
